Words of NoMad

Arlo Hotels have always been a friend to me, your humble international performance poet.

From their opening party at Arlo SoHo years ago, to whiskey + poetry nights, luxury hospitality conferences, rosé parties, app launches, and PRIDE art openings, they’ve always known the perfect ways to incorporate interactive poetic entertainment into their unique approach to hospitality. In fact, we’re still booking our artists for holiday events at Arlo and around the world right now. So when they asked me to curate a special poetry and music salon series at their Arlo NoMad location, I knew it would be a great fit.

For the past few months, on Wednesday evenings we gather in the cozy 2nd floor terrace for Words of NoMads, an intimate open mic with a curated feature poet and musician at each installation. This Wednesday, November 20th, we will be featuring the notorious cello-accordion-guitar trio Bandits On the Run, with the talented chef + poetess Iman Khondker. On December 4th, we’ll welcome slam champion Anthony McPherson, Sundance Theatre Lab Fellow Lauren Whitehead, with interdisciplinary musician Kirt Wiley.

Each evening is unique, because locals and hotel guests alike get to grab a beverage, pull up a chair, and hear heartfelt, funny, and engaging words from diverse talents spanning genres and styles. Anyone can sign up for our open mic, and is welcomed to share their work for three minutes, before our stunning feature artists take the floor. Want to see what it’s like? Here’s an album of last time, featuring YouTube sensations Backtrack Vocals and musical, chess, and poetry prodigy Nkosi Nkululeko.
