Giving back. Community-building. They’re more than just buzz words. Contributing to our communities is at the core of everything we do and stand for at Arlo Hotels.
We’ve also heard from our guests that they’re looking for their own ways to make meaningful contributions. Which is why we’ve partnered with Kind Traveler on a program called Every Stay Gives Back that allows our guests to participate in how we’re supporting our local communities as a company, and as local teams in each of our cities.
Here’s how it works: Each Arlo Hotel will make a donation to Kind Traveler to help support their mission, which is “to empower a new generation of travelers into a financial force that betters the health and well-being of individuals, animals, and the environment in the communities they visit.”
In addition, each guest’s stay at an Arlo Hotel will now include a $0.50 (per night) donation to a local charity doing amazing work in the community and city. The charities we’ve chosen to support share Kind Traveler’s mission, specializing in areas including food and shelter, mental health, and nature/wildlife conservation.
These amazing partners include:
At Arlo Chicago – Deborah’s Place
What began as a humble overnight shelter in a church basement is now a thriving organization that provides supportive housing and services to unaccompanied women experiencing homelessness. Deborah’s Place now has two program locations and more than 200 units of housing across Chicago. The team serves nearly 700 women a year, supporting their healing and stability, with the goal that once a woman comes to Deborah’s Place, she will never be homeless again.
At Arlo Washington DC – DowntownDC Foundation
The DowntownDC Foundation is committed to serving and celebrating the city’s vibrant and diverse community. To help individuals experiencing homelessness, DowntownDC Foundation provides support and services at the Downtown Day Services Center. The organization also works on improvements to and operations of parks, plazas, and other public spaces via infrastructure, public art, and other means. In addition, cultural and social impact programming builds on existing community events and offerings, bolstering a tight knit community that benefits all.
At Arlo Wynwood – Pelican Harbor Seabird Station
In 1980, Harry and Darlene Kelton moved their houseboat to Pelican Harbor Marina and saw an injured brown pelican. After nursing him back to health, the couple created the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station, and soon others joined their cause. In 1992, Miami Dade County built the current station, which is Miami’s premier native wildlife hospital as well as a world-class wildlife rescue, rehab, release, and education center. The station’s team is dedicated to improving the lives of sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife with the goal of releasing healthy animals back into the ecosystem.
At Arlo Williamsburg – Breaking Ground (Williamsburg Safe Haven)
Since January 2022, the Williamsburg Safe Haven has provided transitional housing for vulnerable street homeless individuals on the path to permanent housing. Safe Havens like this one have fewer requirements (no curfews, more privacy), making them a more attractive option for those who may be reluctant to accept shelter. Williamsburg Safe Haven offers intensive case management, housing search and support, primary medical and psychiatric care, and a wide range of skills-building, arts, and recreation workshops.
At Arlo NoMad – City Harvest
The goal of City Harvest’s work is simple yet life-changing—to feed the city, one day, one meal, one New Yorker at a time. The organization was instrumental in starting the food rescue movement more than 40 years ago. This year, City Harvest will rescue more than 86 million pounds of high-quality food from local and national sources that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it, free of charge, to hundreds of food pantries and soup kitchens across the five boroughs. The organization is also invested in advocacy, volunteering, and nutrition and culinary education.
At Arlo SoHo – Lower East Side Girls Club
Since 1996, the Lower Eastside Girls Club has connected young women and gender-expansive youth of color throughout New York City to healthy and successful futures through free year-round programming and mentoring. Their mission? To create a safe space of “Joy, Power, Possibility” where young people can dream big, find their passions, and connect to peers and careers. In 2022, LESGC launched its Center for Wellbeing & Happiness, offering wellness services to all generations and genders of Lower East Side residents.
At Arlo Midtown – Henry Street Settlement
With a history dating back to 1893, Henry Street Settlement’s mission is to open doors of opportunity for Lower East Side residents and other New Yorkers through social service, arts, and health care programs. To that end, the organization runs more than 50 programs for people of all ages—including preschool, Meals on Wheels delivery, job training, mental health counseling, supportive housing, and arts and theater performances. In the words of the settlement’s founder, Lillian Wald, “Neighbors matter. In times of need, act.”
Next time you spend the night with Arlo, sleep well knowing that you’re helping to support these hard-working organizations and the local communities you’re visiting.
