From an idea to Shark Tank to ART Rooftops.

At Arlo, we’re all about partnering with and showcasing innovative brands and creators. Which is why, whenever we host workout events on our ART Rooftops in NYC, Wynwood, and Washington DC, we introduce our attendees to the beauty of Stakt.

Created by co-founders and best friends, Millie Blumka Densing and Taylor Borenstein Servetnick, the Stakt Mat is a first-of-its-kind foldable fitness mat. Twice as thick as traditional yoga mats, it provides serious support, but is lightweight, non-slip, portable, and easy to clean.

When you come on up to a workout at any of our ART Rooftops, you can experience the Stakt Mat first-hand. There are also collaborative events between Arlo and Skakt on the horizon. In the meantime, read on for our interview with co-founder Millie Blumka Densing to learn how Stakt went from the spark of an idea and an appearance on Shark Tank to become a growing wellness brand that believes movement is important for a well-balanced life.

All About Stakt

Tell us the lightbulb moment that eventually became Stakt. What makes it so special?

Stakt was born out of a personal need—we realized our yoga mats weren’t cutting it for the variety of workouts we were doing, and needed something that provided more support and versatility. We saw a gap in the market and took the leap to create a foldable, multi-purpose mat that offered the support we were missing. What makes it special is that even though it just started as a product idea between friends, it’s evolved into a brand built around innovation and empowering movement, no matter how you move.

You started your business with your best friend Taylor in 2020. How do you and Taylor divide your work and collaborate? What strengths do you each bring to the table?

We found our swimlanes pretty easily, based on our skill sets and what we both wanted to focus on. Taylor is a powerhouse when it comes to product development, operations, and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes. I’m more focused on brand, marketing, and partnerships. That being said, we both wear a lot of hats and jump in wherever we’re needed.

What are the pros and cons of working so hard alongside your BFF?

I’d say the biggest pro is having the support system and trust we provide each other. Starting a business can be super lonely, and we feel very lucky that we have each other to laugh through the chaos, vent when we need to, and celebrate the wins with.

The biggest con is definitely that it’s hard to turn it off. When your co-founder is your best friend, boundaries blur, and sometimes it’s tough to separate the work-talk from the friend-talk.

What are the most memorable “OMG, pinch me” moments since you founded Stakt?

Going on Shark Tank is probably the biggest pinch-me moment, but all of our partnerships are pinch-me moments for me.

Is there anything you’d do differently if given the chance?

I really believe everything happens for a reason. Every misstep has taught us something important and has shaped our brand or how we operate. So, while I wouldn’t necessarily change anything, we’ve definitely learned that not every opportunity is the right one, and that knowing when to say no can be just as impactful as saying yes.

Arlo x Stakt

Arlo is known for our rooftops, and especially our rooftop workouts. What are the benefits of working out al fresco, on a rooftop?

Working out on a rooftop just hits differently. It’s a natural mood-booster. I’ve never left an Arlo rooftop workout feeling anything but energized and ready to take on the day.

Do you have a favorite Arlo x Stakt event collaboration or moment?

We have an exciting one coming up—can’t wait to share more soon!
