Every April, Earth Month events and activations remind us of the beauty of the planet we call home. The monthlong awareness campaign is celebrated throughout the world by individuals and organizations alike, including, naturally, Arlo Hotels, where sustainability is always top of mind.
So bring your reusable water bottle and bike over to your nearest Arlo Hotel. We’re hosting a variety of Earth Month events throughout April, offering guests and locals in our communities different ways to connect to the environment and contribute to its protection.
Arlo Earth Month Events
Arts & Crafts
On April 8, from 6pm–8pm, the Studios at Arlo NoMad will host Arts Club: Cyanotypes, a workshop on one of the earliest photographic processes, incorporating found objects into the process. The beginner-friendly class taught by PhDs and professional artists will cover the history and techniques of cyanotope and then invite attendees to create their own cyanotype prints using light, water, and found or natural materials—including personal objects brought from home. This use of existing materials helps reduce waste and also makes for more meaningful prints. Tickets for this hands-on studio experience are $65 per person, with a limited number of complimentary spots for hotel guests.
Vintage Clothing
Thrifters and upcyclers, these events are for you. Buying vintage and secondhand clothing is a great way to reduce the landfill burden created by fast fashion and overconsumption. And when it’s curated with a savvy eye, shopping secondhand can give your look a fresh twist that you won’t see everywhere else.
On April 18, Arlo Midtown hosts the Sun Faded Vintage Pop Up, where you can browse a range of sustainable women’s vintage, Y2K pieces, and accessories. Open to all from 11am–5pm, this is a great chance to update your spring and summer wardrobe. No ticket or RSVP required, and every purchase comes with a free Sun Faded tote.
A day later, on April 19, Arlo SoHo offers a similar opportunity to shop with sustainability in mind, via the No Name Vintage Market. For a preview of what the downtown vintage store on Thompson Street will bring to the pop-up at Arlo, check out No Name’s Instagram.
For The Plant Peeps
Sinking your fingers into soil and nurturing plants is a great way to honor Earth Month, and Arlo has a couple of events on the way to help you do just that. On April 18, Arlo Midtown will host a plant-potting session on the rooftop – depending on weather and limited to guests and those passing by to shop the Sun Faded pop-up. Then, on April 30, Arlo Williamsburg’s Craft Club meeting will be devoted to Plant Pots.
Ground Yourself
Being a good steward of the earth requires taking care of yourself, too. To help in that department, Arlo NoMad is hosting Balance & Reset: Earth Month Edition on April 25, from 12pm–2pm. This afternoon session of movement and mindfulness will be led by Allison from Allison G. Fit and Marianna from Grata Wellness. After a Vinyasa yoga flow for all levels, there will be a guided meditation, sound bath, and guided journaling (journals and pens provided by Altitude Supplies). Aromatherapy, wellness goodies from earth-conscious brands, and post-class light snacks and beverages are all included, and mats and face towels provided. Grippy socks are recommended, and attendees should come ready to move, breathe, and reflect in a likeminded community. Tickets are $40 per person.
Art x Science
Our planet has been a source of inspiration for artists since the dawn of time. On April 23, from 6pm–8:30pm, Arlo Wynwood hosts a lecture series and art unveiling that encapsulates this connection. Art, Corals and Oceanography centers around two original artworks inspired by Miami’s underwater ecosystems by Gustavo Oviedo and also features four short talks about the ocean that bridge art and science. The panel of artists, scientists, and advocates will discuss climate advocacy, global impact, and community-driven coral restoration. Together, these voices will provide a thought-provoking dialog about our relationship with the ocean. The event is free, and open to all.
Pelican Harbor x Arlo Wynwood
Beyond these awesome Earth Month events, all Arlo hotels are committed to sustainability throughout the year. At Arlo Wynwood, the proximity to the coast inspires activations such as the Art, Corals and Oceanography event above. But the commitment to supporting the local environment is a priority every other day as well. Thanks to a partnership with Kind Traveler, every guest who stays at Arlo Wynwood contributes to the work of Miami-based Pelican Harbor Seabird Station via the Every Stay Gives Back program. Across the Arlo portfolio, this program supports an organization in the hotel’s local community. In Miami, at Arlo Wynwood, this means that each guest’s stay includes a $0.50 (per night) donation to Pelican Harbor. Founded by Harry and Darlene Kelton in 1980, the organization’s mission is to improve the lives of sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife with the goal of releasing healthy animals back into the ecosystem. What began as an effort to rehabilitate one injured brown pelican has grown into Miami’s premier native wildlife hospital and education center.
LEED Certification x Arlo Washington DC
As hotel operators, Arlo is hyper-aware of how our buildings affect the environment. So, when it came to the restoration and construction of Arlo Washington DC, sustainability was always a part of the equation. The hotel, which opened in November 2024, paired an historic DC structure with a brand new one, so careful restoration was always a priority, with less need for new building materials. The goal from the get-go was to achieve LEED Certification—and six months after opening, that aspiration became a reality.
Administered by the U.S. Green Building Council, LEED Certification is a renowned green building rating system and an international symbol of excellence. Achieving LEED Certification, like Arlo Washington DC’s Silver Certification, means that the building has implemented healthy, efficient, and cost-effective design, construction, and operations practices that help improve health of the environment and the people who inhabit it.
From the start, Arlo cоllaborated with city officials and conservatiоn organizations to creаte a space that respects and contributes to the environmental wellbeing and historic fabric of the city. For Arlo Washington DC, this translated into things like a 6,000-square-foot green roof with a cistern that captures and treats rainwater for re-use, resulting in over 25 percent reduction in energy costs. The hotel’s native plant landscaping and irrigation sуstem reduces potable water use by 57 percent, and inside, Energy Star-certified аppliances and kitchen equipment minimize еxcessive use of water and energy consumption. The hotel has a walkability score of 91, with many public transportation and bike transit options nearby to help lower the building’s overall environmеntal footprint.
